Make Events’ Tips On How To Do Christmas Like A Pro

It’s not long to go until the big day! Are you prepared? Fear not, Make Events are here to show you how to do Christmas like a pro.

1. Chill a bottle of fizz quickly
Forgot to pre-cool your champers? Wrap the bottle tightly in a damp tea towel, then pop it into the freezer. Heat will travel through the waterlogged towel quicker because itโ€™s a dense material, meaning it will be ice-cold and ready to pour in just 20 minutes!

2. Warm up plates in the dishwasher
When your oven is more stuffed than your turkey, itโ€™s unlikely youโ€™ll be have space to warm up your plates. Instead, put your dinnerware in the dishwasher for a quick rinse beforehand, theyโ€™ll be the perfect temperature.

3. Keep your Christmas tree perky
Does your tree leave you reaching for the hoover every other day? Postpone it shedding needles by moving it somewhere cooler. A draughty place, such as a hallway, will mean you donโ€™t spend the whole festive period under the tree scooping up pine needles.

4. Pimp your mincemeat
Homemade mincemeat is much tastier than shop-bought, but not everybody has time. Buy meat from an independent butchers, then add extra brandy and a handful of luxurious fruits, such as dried cherries or figs. Accept compliments graciously.

5. Crack walnuts without a nutcracker
Festive party trick alert! Place two walnuts, side by side, in the palm of your hand. Make sure the hardest parts of the nuts โ€“ the ridges โ€“ are overlapping, then close your hand and squeeze. They should crack open easily.

6. Turn up the music
Speakers suddenly stopped working at your Christmas party? The only option is to play music off a mobile phone โ€“ but pop it into an empty glass first and the sound will be amplified. All together now: โ€œRockinโ€™ around the Christmas tree, at the Christmas party hopโ€ฆ.โ€

8. Recycle tangled lights
Weโ€™ve all been there โ€“ you excitedly unpack the decorations, only to find the lights are so tangled youโ€™d need a Christmas miracle to rescue them. But donโ€™t throw them out. Find a plant pot that is home to some attractive foliage, and place the twisted strands on the soil. Theyโ€™ll create a magical soft glow beneath the branches.

9. Always win at Christmas crackers
Hold your end of the cracker lower, so it tilts towards you, and go for a slow, controlled pull, with minimum twisting. Mop up your childโ€™s tears when you win.

10. And for next year…
Hereโ€™s a handy tip when you take down your Christmas lights. Instead of just dumping them in a box, wrap them around a piece of cardboard/old Christmas card and they wonโ€™t tangle up when you unearth them next Christmas. Alleluia.
