CHALLENGES
For a third straight year, we were tasked by Co-op to create and manage the Pioneer Awards, their flagship event of the year, where they celebrate their suppliers achievements, further bolstering their relationships. An additional key part of the event is to raise money for their charity partner, Barnardos.
For the first time ever, this prestigious event was held at the incredible Co-op Live arena, this was a particularly momentous occasion, as it was the very first time a private event was held in the arena.
Co-op wanted to mix up the format, and to present a show that felt different, fresh and modern – to not only reflect the amazing new venue, but that also embodied the essence of their new brand positioning.
SOLUTIONS
As we were emanating from one of the world’s coolest music venues, we crafted a music award show inspired format that paid tribute to a mainstream music awards show. To tie the format and the brand together, the concept of ‘Home’ was weaved throughout each touch point – Pioneer Awards were taking place in their new home, and the venue is in the heartland of where the business originated.
Guests received the VIP treatment on the blue carpet, where they were interviewed by Co-op favourites, Claire and Obi, before heading to the drinks reception where Happy Mondays icon Bez worked his magic on the decks, bringing a mix on Mancunian classics to the party.
As guests made their way into the arena bowl for the show to begin, an urban string orchestra greeted them playing a medley of northern classics to entertainment the masses as they took to their seats.
TV and radio stars Sara Cox and Reggie Yates were on hand to host the awards, bringing their warmth and personality to proceedings to create an fantastic atmosphere.
The award presentations were split throughout the night, adding to that awards show feel, allowing Co-op ample time to really celebrate their amazing partners, and additionally it served a great purpose as it allowed us more time to throwback the fundraising endeavours of the evening.
Guests were treated to an exclusive performance from McFly to round of the evening, before heading to the after party where Sara Cox swapped the mic for decks and performed a DJ sit until the early hours.
