At Make Events, we produce a lot of virtual events, but we also love to attend them! Our team have all attended events online in their spare time to experience being a delegate. These range from events on wellness, music, books, food and fitness!
Here is what we’ve learned on how to attend a virtual event ahead of The Make Events Show on 26th March 2021.
- Explore the event website beforehand!
Event websites are packed with information! Speaker bios, downloadable content, activities and loads more. Taking some time before the event to take a look at this content will mean you’re completely engaged on the day and you’ll be excited for what’s to come! Hint: The Make Events Show website will be released very soon… - Join a group chat!
Are a group of your friends / colleagues also attending the virtual event? Why not create a group on Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger for you all to chat through the sessions and topics, you could even jump on a video call on the breaks and experience it together just like a real event! - Treat it like a real event!
Prioritise the time to be truly present in the experience, engage with the sessions and presenters, and use the chat and other networking tools regularly to connect with other guests. When you’re watching alone, it’s easy to “multi-task” and get distracted. Instead, try to reduce notifications so you’re fully engaged. - Get your snacks and drinks ready!
Treat the virtual event you’re attending like a TV show and get relaxed! Grab your snacks, pot of coffee, a notepad and get ready to start learning! You could even order a takeaway from your favourite restaurant to be delivered in the breaks - Block some time out the next day to plan.
The content for a lot of virtual events is available the day after on the event website, which means if you missed any of the sessions or want to watch back your favourite keynote speakers you can! We like to block some time out the next day to write up any notes from the event and plan our actions.
